International Union for the Study of Social Insects

– African Section

Welcome to the website of the African Section of the International Union for the Study of Social Insects (IUSSI). The purpose of the International Union is to promote and encourage the study of social insects and other social organisms in the broadest sense. The IUSSI comprises several regional and national sections. The journal of the IUSSI is Insectes Sociaux which covers various aspects of the biology and evolution of social insects.

Specific aims of the African Section are as follows:

  • establish an inventory of researchers based on the African continent working in the field of social insects
  • develop inter-African links among social insect researchers
  • circulate information in the field of social insects more efficiently

The next International Congress of the IUSSI will take place 2026 in Freiburg, Germany.
